An adaptive‐impedance fault current limiter for accelerating fault current suppression in MMC‐HVDC systems

چکیده

DC fault clearance is one of the critical issues for modular-multilevel-converter-based high voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) systems. Employing a hybrid circuit breaker (H-DCCB) to isolate faulty line typical method achieve fast clearance. However, H-DCCB has interrupt and absorb energy up tens megawatts in several milliseconds. Through theoretical analysis interruption process using H-DCCB, reducing equivalent inductance during falling stage recommended accelerate suppression H-DCCBs. This paper proposes novel adaptive-impedance limiter (AFCL), which contains two coupled reactors an absorption branch (EAB). The proposed AFCL can automatically limit rising works as reactor with fixed through two-state model analysis. Meanwhile, contributes accelerating decline by adaptively discharge circuit. Consequently, time absorbed are reduced. Simulation case studies hardware experiments carried out verify performance practicality AFCL.

Solid State Electronic Fault Current Limiter to Limit the Fault Current in Power System

Increase in power generation capacity of electric power systems has lead to increase in the fault current level which can exceed the maximum designed short-circuit ratings of the switchgear. All the equipment therefore must have a short-circuit rating capable to withstand this level. Short-circuit currents contain extremely high energy and can damage electrical equipment. Typically, the circuit...

Fault Current Limiter for a Distributed Power System

The up-gradation of an Electrical power generation network results in higher levels of short circuit fault current. Thereby, the existing protection equipment like circuit breakers, isolators and fuses become under capacity and not capable of withstanding higher short circuit currents. Thus the system is highly vulnerable to the adverse effects of short circuits. Replacing the whole protection ...

The Impact of Superconducting Fault Current Limiter Locations on Voltage Sag in Power Distribution System

In this paper, the impacts of installing superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)in radial and loop power distribution system are evaluated to improve voltage sag in both cases of with and without distributed generations (DG). Among various SFCLs, the hybrid type with a superconducting element in parallel with a current limiting reactor (CLR) is selected. This is more effective than resisto...
